Wisdom Teeth

Wisdom teeth are the last molars to erupt. These commonly appear around your late teens or early twenties. Although not everyone has wisdom teeth, it is quite common to have one in each corner of your jaw, upper and lower, so a total of four.

As these molars grow and develop, they can sometimes create sudden and severe problems.

Extracting a tooth is always the last option. At Manly Dental Care we strive to save your teeth but there are instances where this is not possible. For some patients, wisdom teeth are not a problem but others find they are difficult to clean and cause discomfit. Infections can occur causing pain. Some wisdom teeth become impacted and need to be surgically removed. All surgery  and invasive procedures carry risks and it is important to discuss these with the dentist.

We can provide nitrous oxide (happy gas) and personalised masks are provided. Local anaesthetic is given to provide comfort and block pain. This can be done in the comfort of our practice. We may recommend you have them removed in the hospital.

An assessment with the Manly Dental Care Team will allow us to determine the best course of action for your individual circumstances.
